Population Simulation for Healthcare Decisions
The Cancer Control Population Simulation Model enhances decision-making in colorectal cancer (CRC) care by evaluating evidence-based interventions and policy changes. It considers factors like age, race/ethnicity, insurance status, healthcare quality, and cancer progression to assess impacts on CRC screening rates and health outcomes. This helps stakeholders make informed decisions to reduce cancer-related issues.
The Cancer Control PopSim team, comprised of public health researchers and practitioners, represents the Modeling EBI Impact Workgroup within the CPCRN, funded by the CDC.

Approximately 150,000 new diagnoses and 50,000 deaths annually in the U.S.
While effective, colorectal cancer screening is underutilized nationally, with about two-thirds of age-eligible adults up-to-date with screening.
Colorectal cancer screening rates are especially low among uninsured, low-income, rural and racial/ethnic minority populations.
